EDWARDSVILLE, IL (KMOX)-A Madison County judge has ordered prosecutors to tape a mental examination with the man charged with murdering a Maryville, Illinois pastor nearly three years ago.
Terry Sedlacek has been found mentally unfit to stand trial for the March 8, 2009 killing of Rev. Fred Winters.
Judge Richard Tongarelli Friday rejected the State’s Attorney’s argument that a recorded examination may not yield accurate results as to Sedlacek’s fitness to stand trial.
Sedlacek has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and, according to court records, mumbles to himself and is unable to cooperate with an interview.
The Madison County State’s Attorney’s office says it is evaluating its options, which include appealing the ruling.
