ST. LOUIS, MO  (KMOX) – The Governor and Missouri’s top sports franchises will be teaming up to rebuild 35 homes in Joplin.  The Cardinals, Rams and Blues will be responsible for a neighborhood in Joplin, and they’re recruiting their fans to come help.

“We’ve already had people saying ‘I want to live in the Cardinals neighborhood, or Blues or Royals,” Nixon said.

Missouri’s government is giving a $3.6 million community development block grant to fund the project. Hundreds of people have already volunteered for the project. Players from the University of Missouri, Kansas Speedway and the Kansas City Royals will also be part of the project. People can request which teams they would like to work with when volunteering this summer. Exact dates and which players will be heading down will be announced in the next few weeks.

This announcement was made on t he stage of the Pepsi Theater in Kiel Opera House (now Peabody). Why didn’t Nixon announce a big benefit show in the Opera House? He is in one of the most historic and finest downtown performing arts centers in America. It is to be no stepchild to sports, or-no longer.
