SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (IRN) - Add this one to the seemingly never-ending attempts to expand or restrict the way people in Illinois can own guns: State Sen. Sam McCann (R-Carlinville) has introduced a bill to do away with the FOID card.
The firearm owners’ identification card is what McCann calls a compromise from a previous General Assembly. He also calls it redundant and unconstitutional.
McCann says his bill would repeal the law stating that gun owners carry this card. He says there are already methods to track gun ownership and ensure that only qualified people own guns.
While such bills tend to be divisive, McCann says he still hopes this one goes all the way.
