Police: Argument Led to Four-Car Crash on I-55

Brad Choat

MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (KMOX) – Illinois State Police say a front-seat passenger wanting to fight a back-seat passenger caused a four-car crash early Sunday on southbound Interstate 55 in the Metro-East.

The woman grabbed the steering wheel and tried to get the driver to pull over so she and another woman could step outside.

Troopers say the SUV went off the roadway then overturned in lanes of traffic when the driver overcorrected.

Two oncoming vehicles struck the SUV, and a fourth car hit one of those.

Troopers say five people were injured— including two knocked unconscious.

The driver of the fourth car involved was cited for dirving under the influence of alcohol.

Illinois State police had the southbound lanes of 55 shut down for nearly seven hours to investigate the crash.

We passed this scene heading east and it looked horrific. Amazed no one was killed and all because of an argument? Senseless
