JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (KMOX) -- There’s digging along Highway 21 and Schenk Road and lots of law enforcement activity – but the Jefferson County Sheriff wants to put to rest any rumors that the work, related to a federal investigation, is related to the missing persons case of Amanda Jones.

“I think someone passed by and tried to put two and two together on their own,” says Sheriff Glenn Boyer. “But they didn’t have any facts or figures and then it just blossemed from there as a rumor.”

Boyer confirms the digging is an active investigation, “but I am not at liberty to discuss it.” Instead he refered KMOX to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Officials there have refused tgo comment on the matter to other media outlets.

But Boyer stresses that the investigation on Highway 21 “has nothing to do with the Amanda Jones case.”

Jones disappeared in August of 2005 from the Hillsboro Civic Center. She was 27 and pregnant when she went missing.
