Should Drug Offenders Be Eligible for Food Stamps?

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Supporters say a bill that would allow convicted drug felons to be eligible for food stamps is gaining momentum among Missouri lawmakers.

The Kansas City Star reports three Republican House members and one Democrat are sponsoring the bill, which would repeal the state’s lifetime ban on food stamps for drug felons.

They say it’s not fair that murderers and child molesters are eligible for assistance, but people with felony drug convictions aren’t.

Missouri is one of only nine states where a felony drug conviction means a lifetime ban.

Supporters of keeping the ban say it prevents drug users from using federal food stamp dollars to feed their habits.

The bill made it out of a House committee last year but never made it to the full House for debate.

selling food stamps can in no way shape or form supply a drug habit maybe for a day. Maybe we should instead look at lifetime bans for those who fraud the govt- drive new cars and work and wear designer cloths from gettiing food stamps.

No, drug felons shouldn’t get access. Nor any murderers.
