St. Louis: Not The Fattest City, But Far From The Healthiest
ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The city of St. Louis finds itself in right about the middle of the pack on a new list of the Most Obese metro areas.
Nationally, more than a quarter of adults were technically obese in 2011 based on numbers in the most recent Gallup Healthways survey.
In the St. Louis metropolitan area, that number was 26.2%, an improvement from 26.7% the year before.
Other rankings for the St. Louis area:
* Nearly 10% have diabetes, slightly lower than the national average
* Almost 49% of St. Louisans claim to exercise “frequently”, with the national average at 52%
* 52% of local residents say they eat produce “frequently”, well below the national average of 57%
