ST. LOUIS (KMOX)-For the first time ever, the NCAA Wrestling Championships in St. Louis have sold out!

St. Louis Sports Commission President Frank Viverito tells KMOX the last of the over 112,000 tickets was sold today, marking the first time in the six years St. Louis has hosted the event, that all six sessions over all three days have sold out.

VIverito says it couldn’t come at a better time, as St. Louis is preparing to bid to host the national  championships again in 2015 and 2016, “For us to be able to take the package we always take, which is one the wrestling fans really enjoy, and to put the ribbon on that box and to be able to say we set the all-time attendance record, can only help us.”

St. Louis has hosted 6 of the last 12 Wrestling Championships. It had held the previous attendance record of over 97,000 fans in 2009. That was broken last year when 104,000 attended the event in Philadelphia.

The championships begin Thursday morning and run through Saturday at the Scottrade Center.
