ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – A man being held in the St. Louis city jail on murder charges is accused of attacking a guard.
It happened Monday afternoon at the city Justice Center, when 19-year-old Rico Paul allegedly punched a guard as he was being placed back in his cell.
Paul was detained, and officials found that he had a homemade knife fashioned from some sheet metal and a cloth.
The sheet metal came from a broken light fixture in his cell, and along with assaulting a law enforcement officer Paul was charged with property damage and possession of a weapon while in jail.
He was being held on a slew of charges, including first-degree murder, at the time of Monday’s incident.
Paul was arrested last spring and charged with the shooting death of longtime St. Louis American circulation manager Paul Reiter.
