Romney and Santorum Stumping Illinois Today

Jim ANderson, IRN

CHICAGO, Ill. (IRN) – It’s a two-man battle in Illinois for the Republican nomination for president.

Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum will campaign here on this final day. On Sunday, Romney was in Rockford, criticizing the president’s economic policies. “Because he has not worked in the economy, he doesn’t understand that when government picks winners – they think – and losers, that the rest of the free economy shudders,” he said.

But Santorum, still in Louisiana on Sunday, said Romney is much like the president, so Santorum’s primary campaign is a good warm-up for the general election, in which Santorum says he believes he has a good chance of being a contestant.

The other Republican candidates, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul, campaigned in Illinois last week, but they are not scheduled to be in the state today.

Of course Romney was criticizing the current president, that’s the only horse he rides (besides bragging about taking money to save the Olympics). Has anyone else noticed Romney doesn’t really have a campaign? He just criticizes everyone else, he doesn’t explain how HE’D do it better.

    Santorum is no better.
