ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — Rumors of his run for the United States Senate have been put to rest today.
Republican State Auditor Tom Schweich told KMOX’s Mark Reardon Tuesday that he will not run in the GOP primary.
Candidates already in that race include Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.), businessman John Brunner and former Missouri State treasurer Sarah Steelman.
They are competing to run against Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) in November.
Earlier this month, Schweich set up “Schweich for US Senate” committee to test the waters for a potential U.S. Senate bid. The committee allowed Schweich to raise and spend money while considering whether to launch a formal challenge.
After starting the committee several major Republican donors urged Schweich to run. Schweich said he seriously considered their requests.
