CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) — Southern Illinois University is seeing a 5.5 percent increase in freshman admissions at its Carbondale campus.
Provost John Nicklow says there are about 7,600 freshmen admitted for the fall semester compared to about 7,265 at this time last year. The Southern Illinoisan reports that Nicklow made his comments at the SIU Carbondale Faculty Senate meeting Tuesday.
The administrator says SIUC is making an extra effort to draw in more students and to keep the ones it has.
Nicklow says SIU plans to contact former students to find out why they left for example, whether they left for financial reasons or because they simply didn’t enjoy the experience.
