Metro-East Police Sergeant Accused of Drinking & Driving on St. Patrick’s Day

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) — A Fairview Heights police sergeant suspected of being drunk during a St. Patrick’s Day car wreck is free on bond.

Investigators say 47-year old James Krummerich was off duty and appeared to be intoxicated when Belleville Police responded to a two vehicle car accident around 6 p.m. Saturday. That car crash caused no injuries.

Fairview Heights Police Chief Nick Gailius says Krummrich is a 15-year police veteran now on paid administrative leave as the department investigates.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports Krummrich has been a sergeant since 2008 and earns more than $86,000 as a patrol supervisor. He also teaches at the Southwestern Illinois Police Academy.

Krummrich didn’t immediately respond to a message seeking comment that was left Tuesday night with a woman answering his telephone.
