MARION, Ill. (AP) — A worker at a southern Illinois store could have enjoyed a sudden influx of cash when she found a money clip with nearly $2,000 cash inside a box. But Diane Williford says honesty prevailed.
WSIL-TV reports the employee at McKinney’s Western Store in Marion made sure Ron Ward got the money back, knowing he’d been looking for it since he visited the store around Christmas before his planned trip to Las Vegas.
Ward says he never expected to see the money again.
But Williford says she was putting some sales items out last weekend when she found the money clip in a box, then reunited the cash with Ward.
Williford turned down a cash reward from Ward, but accepted a gift card to her favorite restaurant.
