ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – St. Louis city police shoot and kill a man who fired on them while trying to avoid a traffic stop.

It began Thursday night in the 5500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Police say 34-year-old Edward Irons of Berkeley crashed his car after driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

He then got out of the car and started firing shots at officers as he ran.

The police report says five officers —fearing for their safety and the public’s safety — fired shots at Irons.

He was struck at least once and was killed.  No officers were injured.
