Cards Opening Day Roster Set

JUPITER, Fla. (KMOX) – First-year manager Mike Matheny and his coaching staff are ready for their St. Louis Cardinals to begin regular season play, Wednesday night, at Miami.

Matheny says he plans to open the season with 12 pitchers, 2 catchers, 6 infielders and 5 outfielders.

Three players (Chris Carpenter, Allen Craig, and Skip Schumaker) will be placed on the disabled list.

The opening day pitching staff will include (jersey numbers): Mitchell Boggs (41), Jaime Garcia (54), Scott Linebrink (40), Kyle Lohse (26), Lance Lynn (31), Kyle McClellan (46), Jason Motte (30), J.C. Romero (16), Marc Rzepczynski (34), Fernando Salas (59), Adam Wainwright (50), Jake Westbrook (35);

Yadier Molina (4) will be backed up by Tony Cruz (48) at catcher.

The list of infielders includes: Lance Berkman (12), Matt Carpenter (13), Daniel Descalso (33), David Freese (23), Rafael Furcal (15), and Tyler Greene (27).

Erik Komatsu (44) and Shane Robinson (43) join veterans Carlos Beltran (3), Matt Holliday (7), and Jon Jay (19) in the outfield.
