ST. LOUIS (CBS St. Louis) — Whoops.
Hours before the Kansas Jayhawks are set to square off against the Kentucky Wildcats in the NCAA men’s final, the Kansas athletics store might have jinxed the team’s chances by already selling national champions t-shirts on its website.
“Congratulation Kansas Jayhawks on the 2012 Final Four Championship!” the website states. “Show your team pride with this Kansas Jayhawks 2012 Mens Basketball Nothin But Net Champ Tee.”
The t-shirts were being sold on KU Store website for $19.99 before being taken down. CBS St. Louis has reached out to the University of Kansas for comment.
The University of Kentucky told CBS St. Louis that they are not selling t-shirts claiming victory … yet.
This is not the first time something like this has happened. During the 2009 World Series, the Philadelphia Inquirer ran an ad congratulating the Philadelphia Phillies for winning their second consecutive championship, despite the New York Yankees holding a 3-1 series lead when the ad ran. The Yankees ended up taking the title.
The championship game between Kansas and Kentucky takes place at 9 p.m. ET tonight on CBS.
