8/29/11-Dogs rescued from so-called puppy mills during recent raids throughout Missouri are now up for adoption at the Humane Society of Missouri office on Macklind. The chichihuas, Shih Tzus, Maltese, Poodles and other breeds were saved from deplorable conditions at breeding facilities in Phelps, Cole, Dunklin and Lawrence Counties. All have received veterinary treatment and vaccinated, and each has been imbedded with a microchip ID. The dogs can be seen at Humane Society headquarters at 1201 Macklind Ave. or at www.hsmo.org. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – Missouri senators have approved legislation requiring pet owners to have their dogs and cats vaccinated against rabies.

The vaccinations would have to be performed by a veterinarian and be kept current according to the doctor’s determination or any local law. The bill has an exemption for dogs and cats with medical conditions that restrict them from being vaccinated.

The measure passed the Senate 22-12, and it now moves to the Missouri House.

Rabies vaccine is SB566
