EAST ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - East St. Louis Mayor Alvin Parks says he will hold a news conference to address a call by Senator Dick Durbin to close bars and nightclubs earlier.

Durbin who held a meeting with members of the clergy made the appeal directly to Mayor Parks after another shooting death outside a nightclub.

“I’ve sent that message to him privately I’ve sent it to him publicly and I would just remind him what I try to remember every day. He is a public servant” said Senator Durbin.

Mayor Parks who earlier said he wasn’t invited to that meeting told KMOX Wednesday evening he would have no comment until he meets with reporters Thursday afternoon after a Liquor Board hearing concerning the latest killing outside Yogi and Jackie’s Bar and Grill.

Along with closing bars earlier, Senator Durbin would also like to see liquor sales banned after 11 pm on weeknights and 1 am on weekends.
