Mayor says ‘No” to Senator’s Call to Close Bars Early
EAST ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – East Saint Louis Mayor Alvin Parks is responding to U-S Senator Dick Durbin after the Senior Senator dressed down the Mayor for allowing night clubs to stay open into the wee hours of the morning. Senator Durbin says that’s what is causing the crime.
Mayor Parks disagrees, but welcomes Senator Durbin’s clout and says he will continue to show the respect that the Senator is due.
Today, Mayor Parks revoked the liquor license of Yogi and Jackie’s Bar and Grill on North Ninth Street following a weekend murder outside the tavern. Parks says the club owners were not acting responsibly.
However, Parks has no intentions of making night clubs close early as Senator Durbin has requested, yet the Mayor is confident the two can still work together for the good of East Saint Louis. The Mayor adds the real solution to ending crime is more police officers on the street.
