ST. LOUIS (AP) – Rivers in Missouri have mostly stayed within their banks so far this spring, but last weekend’s heavy rain has caused some concern.

The Missouri River rose nearly 9 feet at the eastern Missouri town of Washington after about 5 inches of rain fell over the weekend. The river is expected to crest on Friday at 16.4 feet there, still below the 20-foot flood stage.

The Missouri was also within a few feet of flood stage in Gasconade, Hermann and St. Charles, though no significant problems were reported.

The Bourbeuse River at Union was nearly 2 feet above flood stage on Tuesday, but dropping.

Rain is mostly out of the forecast for much of the state until Friday.
