How about Cardinals new starter Lance Lynn becoming the first 4-game winner in Major League Baseball? The ‘Lynn-sanity’ will hopefully continue and Kevin Wheeler starts 3 Strikes with that trending topic plus touches on the Blues learning the days of their games plus the Rams’ prospect of trading down in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
The Cardinals improved their record to 12-7 on Wednesday afternoon avoiding a sweep from the Chicago Cubs behind the strong pitching of Lance Lynn, who is now 4-0, plus David Freese’s 2-run 6th inning home run and 8th inning RBI double. Kevin recaps the game, and probably agrees with most of Cardinal Nation in believing the Redbirds could have easily swept their rival.
Chris Kerber, ‘the Voice of the Blues’, had an opportunity to get two perspectives of playoff experience when he spoke with David Backes and Barret Jackman. ‘Kerbs’ also gets their thoughts on what to expect when they finally drop the puck with the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday at the Scottrade Center.
Rams head coach Jeff Fisher and Les Snead held a press conference on Wednesday morning. This segment essentially begins Kevin’s preview of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Since they made the blockbuster trade with the Washington Redskins, the Rams now with the No. 6 pick have to wait for the Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns & Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kevin gets insight from Mike Max of WCCO in Minneapolis, Andre Knott of WTAM in Cleveland and Darek Sharp of WDAE in Tampa Bay.
Jim Thomas, one the busiest men in St. Louis at this time of the year, joins Kevin to give his take on the Rams prospect of making more trades for more draft picks. Rams coach Jeff Fisher, along with the organization, feel they could use a little more quantity at this point in rebuilding the franchise.
Blues winger Andy McDonald is statistically having the best Stanley Cup Playoffs among Western Conference offensive players. With 8 points (4 goals, 4 assists) through 5 games, the next closest individual from the West is Blues center Patrik Berglund, who has 7 points (3 goals, 4 assists). Kevin Wheeler had a chance to speak with Andy, who was not seen by the Kings during the regular season.
Check out Kevin Wheeler’s 2012 NFL Mock Draft on Thursday morning. Hours later in the evening beginning just after 6:00pm, he will be hosting a NFL Draft edition of Sports Open Line. Here’s a sneak peek about what ‘Wheels’ is thinking on the eve of the first round picks.
For a better Kings perspective, Kevin talks with LA Times sports columnist Helene Elliott. Are the Blues and Kings as similar as most of us think? Also, Helene sheds some light on why some of the game times, especially in Los Angeles, may be a tad hectic.
