St. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) - Inquiring minds may want to know, but the Convention and Visitors Commission doesn’t want to reveal the Rams latest proposal to fix up the Edward Jones dome.
The CVC asked a circuit court to ignore Sunshine Law requests from media organizations and not reveal the latest dollar amounts being discussed in their talks with the Rams. Attorney Greg Smith represents the CVC.
“Certain confidentiality is afforded to the elected leadership in order that they can conduct business in an appropriate and business like setting.”
Smith told KMOX news the CVC wants to prevent meddling from those against the deal and for it.
“There will be those who might say and who might try to influence public officials to expend public funds for a particular public objective regardless of cost.”
Smith said the public will get to see the deal eventually, and vote on it under the Hancock amendment, if it requires new tax dollars.
News organizations seeking the release of the document argue the public has a right to know details of a deal in the works that they, they taxpayers, might end up helping to pay for.
