Murder victim Stephanie Fields, whose boyfriend faces possible death sentence
ST. LOUIS–(KMOX)–He was convicted of killing his live-in girlfriend and chopping her up into pieces. Today, Vernell Loggins is scheduled for sentencing in Franklin County, Missouri.
The jury which convicted Loggins and recommended the death penalty was aghast at the viciousness of the murder.
Stephanie Fields, 25, of Pacific was stabbed over 25 times. Blood was splattered so high, some was found on the ceiling fan.After killing her, the 37-year old Loggins, who was a truck driver, went shopping at Walmart.
Store surveillance video showed him picking out some carpet cleaner and a 64 gallon plastic trash can, in which he stuffed her headless body and left outside the Monroe Woods apartment complex where the couple lived.
Her head was later found in the Meramec River.
