FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, ILL.(KMOX)-We now know the name of the driver of that Black Honda Accord that reportedly hit four Illinois Department of Transportation subcontractors killing one of them.
The Illinois State Police say 34 year old Michael Jeter of West Frankfort Illinois was driving in a manner they describe as erractic. Jeter was traveling eastbound on Interstate 64 near exit 159 in Fairview Heights, Illinois when State Police say he drove off the left side of the road and struck two parked work trucks and the employees who were preparing to do striping work.
38 year old Dennis Beard was killed, 39 year old Kory Links and 32 year old Adam Evans both of Pochontas remain in serious condition. Evans is being treated at St. Louis University Hospital while Links is being treated at Barnes Jewish Hospital. 40 year old Brian Moore of Hoyleton is in critical condition at St Loius University. The men worked for Briteway Stirping Serrvices of New Baden, Illinois.
Illinois State Police say no charges have been filed against Jeter yet pending an investigation. A witness to the accident told KMOX News, he was on his way to work when he saw the black Honda weaving in and out of traffic right before it crashed.
Traffic was backed up for about four hours Tuesday as the victims were airlifted to area hospitals, debris was removed and accident reconstruction crews worked the scene.
