ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) –  He could get up to a dozen years in prison if convicted, but is that tough enough for the St. Louis man accused in the torture death of five pit bulls?

stallworth Animal Abuse Laws: Tough Enough? 31-year old Darick Dashon Stallworth is charged with three felonies and two misdemeanors in the deaths of five pit bulls he allegedly strangled in an empty four-family flat on Wells Avenue.

Circuit Attorney Chief Warrant Officer Ed Postawko was asked if state laws are tough enough for such cases..

“I certainly think there’s room for examining the laws and the possible punishment and what exactly we have to work with in Missouri”

Postawko says the state laws on animal abuse only go so far.

“Those laws could certainly stand some examination and discussion on possible changes that could be made, changes that are more appropriate.”

No word on the motive. No trial date has been set.
