BackStoppers Donates $50,000 to Injured Florissant Police Officer

FLORRISSANT, Mo. (KMOX) – The BackStoppers has contributed $50,000 to injured Florissant Police Officer Michael Vernon.
The donation was presented to Officer Vernon Friday at DePaul Hospital by BackStoppers Board of Directors President Jeff Fox and Executive Director Chief Ron Battelle.
“The Vernon family is in our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. We consider it an honor and privilege to be able to assist Officer Vernon in this time of need,” said Chief Battelle.
Vernon was shot in the shoulder and side Monday morning while investigating a burglary call. Doctors told Vernon that he is permanently paralyzed from the waist down.
Fellow Florissant officer Andy Haarman got the news Thursday afternoon, “His life as he knew it on Sunday is totally different now.” Vernon has began rehab, and is bound and determined to recover as much as he can.
The BackStoppers cover 18 counties in Missouri and Illinois, and its mission is to assist the families of police, fire and EMS officers killed in the line of duty and officers suffering catastrophic injuries.
The Florissant police department is accepting donations for Officer Vernon.
