ST. LOUIS–(KMOX)–She was young and tall and good looking, but the city that drew her in was a rough place. Before she could get back to her own kind, she was a dead deer.
Police say it appears the doe died of unknown injuries. Officer Chad Cross says he found the body on Memorial Drive south of Washington Avenue around 2:30 Friday afternoon. Police dragged the doe off the street to some gravel, where animal control officials were expected to pick it up.
Earlier there were reports the deer had banged into a shop window around 6th and Washington, perhaps seeing its own reflection and eager to get back with other deer.
Deer sightings downtown are extremely rare, but Cross says the doe may have been displaced by construction north of the city and wandered into town in search of something better.
