Good reviews and above average audience response propelled “Snow White and the Huntsman” to the number 1 spot at the movie box office this weekend with $56.3 million. Moviegoers were buzzing about Charlize Theron’s over-the-top performance and the film’s legitimate story-telling and imaginative special effects.
“Men in Black III” came in second with $29.3 million, with attendance down 46% from its opening weekend.
“Marvel’s The Avengers” ” with third with $20.3 million, giving it a total of $552.7 million for five weeks. ”Battleship” continued to disappoint with $4.8 million for fourth place and in fifth spot was “The Dictator” with $4.7 million.
In limited release, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” came in sixth with a healthy $4.6 million. Audience word-of-mouth and outstanding reviews seem to be propelling the small budget film into better than expected success.
