ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A man has been officially charged with violating the police closure of Washington Avenue over the weekend.
It was part of a new police campaign to crack down on criminal activity in the entertainment district.
But when officers approached a car driven by 24-year-old David Christoph Majtas for driving around several barricades, Majtas reportedly hit the gas and suddenly lurched forward, nearly striking the officers.
Police say Majtas drove off, blew through stop signs and went the wrong way down a one-way street in an effort to evade officers.
He was eventually captured and faces charges of 2nd degree assault of law enforcement officers and resisting arrest.
Majtas may have been taking his tattoo too literally — it reads “Never Surrender”.
