ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis-based agribusiness company Monsanto is donating $3 million toward an effort to develop an international online resource for all known plant species.
The gift was announced Tuesday. It will aid in creation of the World Flora Online database being developed by some of the world’s leading botanical institutions including the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis, the New York Botanical Garden, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and the Royal Botanic Gardens.
Officials say World Flora Online will include about 400,000 known plant species worldwide.
