“Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” proved to be what most moviegoers (and their families) wanted over the weekend as it sailed into first place with a very strong $60.4 million dollars. The film features the vocal talents of Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Sacha Baron Cohen and St. Louis native Cedric the Entertainer. The movie is being shown in both 2-D and 3-D.
Director Ridley Scott’s much-anticipated ”Prometheus” came in a disappointing second with $50 million, which was approximately $27 million less than projected.
“Snow White and the Huntsman” took in $23 million in its second week, and has a total of $98.5 million for two weeks in release. “Men in Black III” was 4th with $13.5 million and in 5th spot was “Marvels The Avengers” with $10.8 million. It has sold $571.9 million in 3 weeks of domestic release. For more on the weekend box office, click on the link below. The summer movie business is producing strong but somewhat unpredictable results. 3-D continues to be something audiences are really preferring.
One of the movies opening next weekend is “Rock of Ages” starring Tom Cruise.
