ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – St. Louis’ famed Crown Candy Kitchen may be best-known for its thick malts, but its BLT sandwich is about to have a national TV audience.

The Post-Dispatch reports that the Travel Channel’s Adam Richman has picked what Crown Candy calls its “Heart-Stopping BLT” as a contender for the nation’s best sandwich. The program “Best Sandwich in America” will feature the St. Louis favorite in an episode airing at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The sandwich features at least 14 pieces of bacon. About 125 of the sandwiches are served daily.

It’s Richman’s second visit to Crown Candy. He took the “malt challenge” for his “Man vs. Food” show in 2008 and tried to drink five malts in 30 minutes.  Richman made it through 4 1/2 before his body reversed the flow.
