Rapist Gets 120-year in Prison for Attack on Woman

WHEATON, Ill. (AP) — A suburban Chicago man has been sentenced to 120 years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman after breaking into her home and forcing her to sexually abuse her five-year-old son.

The sentence handed Monday to James P. Murphy of Oak Forest was the maximum allowed by law. In handing down the sentence, DuPage County Circuit Judge Daniel Guerin said forcing a mother to what she did was an act “the devil himself would by loathe to commit.”

According to prosecutors, Murphy carried out the attack in August 2005 after cutting a window screen to enter the woman’s apartment. The 37-year-old was arrested 10 months later after committing another rape in Chicago. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being tried for that attack.
