METROPOLIS, Ill. (AP)- A judge in southern Illinois has handed down a 21-year prison sentence for one of three men accused in a fatal shooting.
WSIL-TV reports that 20-year-old Demetrius Hill of Cairo pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree murder in Massac County. That’s where a jury had been picked Monday and was to begin hearing the case Tuesday.
Hill was accused in the November 2010 death of 22-year-old Brad Sims. Authorities say Sims was gunned down during a break-in and robbery of his rural Brookport home.
Nineteen-year-old Riley Purdiman of Cairo pleaded guilty in April to first-degree murder and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Hill’s brother, Jalmar Hill, has pleaded not guilty and awaits an August trial.
