ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis County still owes $46 million in debt resulting from construction of the new Busch Stadium downtown.
However, KMOX News has learned that the county could save roughly $4 million in interest payments by refinancing bonds.
County Chief Operating Officer Garry Earls was asked if similar savings could be identified through a closer examination of debt that remains on the Edward Jones Dome, which opened nearly two decades ago.
“Well, we’ll look at that as the opportunity becomes available,” Earls responded, “but they’re not really ready yet. There’s not an opportunity at this point for the refinancing (of the Dome).”
As for Busch Stadium, Earls added, the county will clear that debt in just over 20 years.
