CLAYTON, MO (KMOX)-A Chesterfield man has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the drunk driving death of a Whitfield school teacher and coach.

Patrick McCormick pleaded guilty in St. Louis County Circuit Court Friday. Prosecutors are recommending he get seven years in prison when he’s sentenced in August.

Police say McCormick was drunk the night of August 26, 2011 when his vehicle crossed the center line on Wildhorse Creek Road and hit the car driven by Janet Esrock. Esrock died two weeks later. Her 16-year-old son was seriously injured.

Esrock coached field hockey, girls basketball and soccer at Whitfield. In November the school named its field hockey field in her memory.
