EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) –  More and more, water is becoming a precious commodity as hot, dry conditions linger over the region for yet another week.

In fact, one Metro East community is now urging residents to refrain from activities such as “outdoor watering and washing” until some substantial precipitation finally arrives.

As of 7 am Wednesday morning the city of Edwardsville is asking its customers — including those in the village of Glen Carbon, Northeast Central Public Water District, and SIU-Edwardsville — to cut back on water usage as much as possible so they can maintain quality standards and ease strain on their infrastructure.

The order, so far, is voluntary.

Again, customers of the Edwardsville water district, including Glen Carbon, SIU-Edwardsville, and the Northeast Central District, are being urged to reduce their water consumption for the time being.
