SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (KMOX) - A Metro-East police department is making big strides toward discouraging drunk driving.
The Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists says Fairview Heights officers increased its amount of DUI arrests, last year, by a whopping 141%.
The northern Illinois based citizen activist group says Fairview Heights police took 203 suspected drunk drivers off the streets in 2011, up from 84 the previous year.
The other Metro-East department on the group’s latest compilation — Alton— dropped 4% in DUI arrests — from 294 to 288.
Outside of Chicago, Rockford police had the highest number of DUI arrests in 2011, a count of 686. Alton placed 12th on the list. Fairview Heights came in 25th.
