ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – It was so hot at Busch Stadium during Saturday afternoon’s game that…
KMOX News went over and asked fans leaving the ballpark midway through the contest how bad it was.
“It was pretty brutal anywhere in the sun,” said one female fan. Her male acquaintance said, “The walkways were like an oven.”
One couple from far southern Illinois had cooler thoughts in mind when they planned their visit to Busch, “We got our tickets back in the spring. Had to use them.”
However, that same couple had nothing but praise for staffers at the stadium, “They gave out ice and water. They’re doing their part.”
We’re still awaiting word from Cardinals officials on how many fans were treated for heat-related illnesses at the game.
St. Louis firefighters had a pumper truck beyond the outfield gates spraying water on those who wanted a quick cool-down, like a bicycle cart operator giving fans rides to their cars. He told KMOX the showers were appreciated, “I’ve been riding through the sprinkler over and over again. It’s so hot that when I get wet it just evaporates right away.”
The mercury reached 104 degrees in St. Louis on Saturday, breaking a record.
