ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -As of this morning, some Metro riders are paying more to take the train or bus.
Increases in the cost of two-hour and monthly passes are taking effect today. Two hour passes that were $2.75 are now $3 and monthly passes that were $68 are now $72.
Metro Spokeswoman Dianne Williams says a lot of customers won’t be affected, “It’ll have no impact if you are a day-to-day cash-fare customer. You paid $2 last month you’ll pay $2 for a basic fare ticket next month.”
Williams says the increase was originally scheduled to go into effect two years ago, but Metro held off until now.
Williams says the increase is expected to generate about $2 million dollars a year to help cover higher fuel and steel costs.
