ST. LOUIS(KMOX) – Two more communities have made their decisions on whether to have city-sponsored fireworks on the 4th of July.
The communities are Florissant and Mascoutah.
In Florissant, city officials have given the green light for the celebration at the James Eagan Center. There will be additional firefighters on duty with a staged fire pumper and patrols will be monitoring neighborhoods.
However, Florissant officials remind residents it’s illegal to shoot-off their own fireworks. Fines can go to $1,000.
But in Mascoutah Illinois , because of the dry conditions Police Chief Bruce Fleshren says the July 4th celebration has been cancelled at Scheve Park.
“The area that we try to have the embers in is an open field but it does abut residential areas. Due to the dry heat we don’t want to set one of these areas on fire.” said Chief Fleshren.
The Mascoutah fireworks will be rescheduled when weather conditions are favorable.
