This whole thing began over a year ago when international hackers ran an advertising scam that was designed to take control of over 500,000 computers around the world. The F.B.I. busted the bad guys but realized if they shut the servers the crooks were using down all the victims would lose their internet service.
So, the F.B.I. set up several “clean” servers and took the hackers servers off line.
This was only a temporary fix and come Monday at 12:01 AM the feds are going to pull the plug on those servers. Experts don’t know how many computers are still infected.
There is a way you can check to see if your machine is infected. Click here and you’ll be taken to a site that will tell you what your computer’s status is.
