Election Returns

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – On the heels of Friday night’s Republican U.S. Senate candidate debate in St. Louis, the Democrat waiting to face one of them in November’s general election sought to drawn a clear distinction.

Incumbent Claire McCaskill said the views of Todd Akin, John Brunner, and Sarah Steelman are “out of step” with most Missourians, “Do we need to get our fiscal house in order? Yes, we do. But, do we need to do that by blowing up Medicare, Social Security, and college loans? I will fight that with every breath in my body.”

Sen. McCaskill said the G.O.P. Senate candidates in Missouri are very extreme, in her opinion, “These three candidates make John Ashcroft look like a liberal.”

McCaskill ended her 24-city statewide bus tour, Saturday, with a stop at the Missouri Democratic Party’s new campaign office in north St. Louis.
