EDWARDSVILLE, Il. (KMOX)-The parents of a two-year-old boy who drowned in a lake behind their Edwardsville home in May have been charged with felony endangering the life or health of a child.

Investigators say Emilie and Thomas Pinski knew that Lukas Pinski and his twin brother were able to climb out a basement window and into the unfenced yard, but failed to do anything about it. They say the boys had previously escaped on ‘multiple prior occasions’, but the Pinski’s failed to lock the window or remove a bench in front of the window that allowed them to reach it.

Lukas drowned after he and his brother climbed out that window and walked to the pond. Lukas was found floating in the pond. His brother was found wandering nearby with only a few minor cuts on his body.

The Pinskis and Rebecca Kennedy are also charged with misdemeanor counts of endangering the life or health or a child. Prosecutors say they allowed their five children to live in the home on Cherokee Trail, that investigators say contained piles of human and animal feces, broken glass, debris and trash.

The state has temporary custody of the four remaining children, 2 and 5-year-old boys and 3 and 1-year-old girls.
