ST. LOUIS (KMOX)- Alton Memorial Hospital makes the top ten list of safest hospitals in the nation — according to a new survey by Consumer Reports magazine.
KMOX reports that the hospitals are ranked on six criteria — including infections, re-admittance, communication on safety issues, common complications, death rates, and radiation exposure due to too many imaging tests.
Alton Memorial tied for the second highest score in the nation — a 71 — trailing only the Billings Clinic in Billings, Montana. St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, tied for third with a 70 safety ranking .At the other end of the spectrum, Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Missouri, scored a 22 on the safety scale — third lowest in the nation.
Other local hospitals earning scores in the 60’s: Barnes Jewish St. Peters, Barnes Jewish West County, Missouri Baptist Medical Center and Memorial Hospital in Belleville.
