1 Suspect Killed, 2 Arrested after Police Shootout in South St. Louis
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) — A burglary suspect is dead, two others are in custody, and an officer’s patrol car is upside down in a chaotic scene near Dogtown in south St. Louis.
It all started when several people decided to burglarize a home in the 6200 block of Famous Avenue.
Police says the homeowner was inside the home at the time and alerted police.
When police arrived two suspects came out of the house with guns drawn firing on officers. The officers fired back, hitting one suspect in the chest. He was taken to local hospital where he later died. He is identified as 23 year-old Brandon Jones.
Several other suspects fled the scene. Police say they found two men in a nearby more than an hour after the initial incident.They have been taken into police custody.
Police continue to search for a woman who fled the scene in a blue SUV. The Ford Explorer was found abandoned in the 2900 block of Pestalozzi. The woman remains at large.
Meanwhile, in a related incident, a St. Louis Police car headed to the scene crashed into another car at Tamm and Choteau. Police say both the officer and the driver of the other car suffered only minor injuries.
