ST. LOUIS (KMOX)-Two Missouri Republicans running for state-wide office are backing a lawsuit challenging language on Missouri’s upcoming ballot.
The ballot language reads: “Shall Missouri law be amended to deny individuals, families, and small businesses the ability to access affordable health care plans through a state-based health benefit exchange.”
The language was approved by the Secretary of State and the Attorney General, who are both Democrats.
Ed Martin is running for Attorney General, and he says the language for the health care bill on Missouri’s ballot is misleading.
“We have people who are in office, Secretary Carnahan and Chris Koster, who are so driven by their ideology that they’re not being fair and straight with us,” Martin says. “One aspect of it basically says that if you vote against healthcare exchanges, you will be denying people affordable healthcare, and that is patently untrue.”
He says that’s because if Missouri doesn’t set up a health care exchange, then the Federal Government will have to come in and do it.
Martin didn’t offer a suggestion for how the language should be rewritten, although he is opposed to the entire health care law.
