BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) –   A woman killed during a home invasion in Belleville late Monday night has been identified as 23-year-old Lanae Cole.

Police believe she and a man who was also attacked inside the home in the 600 block of East McKinley around 11:30 p.m. were targeted, saying this was not a random attack.

Both Cole and the unidentified man were stabbed multiple times.

Two men have been taken into custody.

Belleville police are working to sort out the details of a deadly home invasion late Monday night.

Responding to a call in the 600 block of East McKinley shortly before midnight, officers found a seriously injured man lying in the street.

He told them he was the victim of a home invasion and directed them to a nearby residence, where officers discovered a woman who’d been murdered.

A man located near the scene was taken into custody for further investigation.

No names have been released as the investigation continues.
