“Ice Age: Continental Drift” finished a little below studio expectations, but still topped all other films in North America with a weekend total of $47 million. The film did an additional $120 million overseas.
“The Amazing Spider-Man” was number two scoring $35 million for the weekend and giving it a grand total of $200.9 million for two weeks in release.
The surprising success of the adult comedy about a grown man with a talking teddy bear for a best friend, “Ted,” was number three over the weekend with $22.2 million and a total of $159 million for three weeks in release.
Another animated 3D family adventure film, “Brave,” was number four with a total of $10.7 million, and “Magic Mike” finished number five with $9 million. For more details on all the films from the weekend, click on the link below.
The big opening July 20 is the much-anticipated Batman epic, “The Dark Knight Rises.” It is expected to be one of the top five box office films of 2012 worldwide.
